The Terms And Conditions you sign on hire are changing.

Some are minor changes, like I’m updating to let you know that you’ll get an email five days before your hire it due back, and also asking you to add the hire email addresses to your safe senders list. I’ve also made the library’s policy for extremely overdue hires very clear.


But there’s also going to be a major change so I’m giving you advance notice of it! From April 1st all HIRES and RENEWALS will be subject to late fees (on top of the standard hire fee you’re charged for hiring) if you don’t return or renew before your return date.

The charges will be £2 PER DAY for the first seven days the carrier is overdue past it’s return date. And £2 per week for every week after that.

I understand that the long term hires end on odd days so to reflect this if you return your hire to a LIBRARY SESSION (not to my house, it MUST be to a library session) within five days of your return date then the late fees will be automatically waived.

Late fees will be charged up to and including the day you pay for your renewal (Which means that if you send me money on Wednesday but I can only process your hire on Thursday you won’t get charged an extra days late fees!). If you can take a screenshot of your payment and send it to me that will speed up the admin process!

I’m hoping that these fees will add a little motivation to help people renew their carriers before they become overdue, or it will go someway to making up for the admin time spent chasing overdue hires!

As with everything I can waive fees at my discretion so if you have problems with anything get in touch with me as soon as you can and let me know what’s going on.

Overdue slings: a plea

So, you’ve got an email to say your carrier is overdue, or you’ve suddenly realised it is overdue (or suspect it might be!).

What not to do: Ignore it and hope it goes away. (Because it won’t)

What to do: Reply to my email, or contact me and I’ll explain what you need to do. I’m reasonable and approachable and since I tell people I can fix anything I know about, you can test that and make me fix things.

Over the years I’ve had lots of reasons for carriers being late. Poorly babies, poorly mums, bereavements, overunning naps, traffic, getting lost, but mostly just plain old forgetfulness.

Not a single one is a problem, email me as soon as you can and let me work my magic.

Please remember that when you hire you are shown terms and conditions, you then sign to say you agree to them. Part of those terms and conditions are that you will pay me £4 per week for every week you have the carrier. This means the longer you avoid me the more you will owe me when I finally get hold of you. Because I will, you have my property I can’t just write it off!

Here’s how overdue hires work. If you don’t return when your carrier is due I send an email letting you know it’s overdue and how to send money to extend the hire. Most of the time people just need a reminder and the first one does the trick, I update the spreadsheet and we’re good to go. If you don’t reply I will send you one of these for three weeks. After that I will send you a paypal request along with your email requesting the total amount owed so far. Again I will send you three of those, one a week. The next stage is that you will get a text and I will use any other means I have to try and contact you. Once I’ve sent two texts (And reminders by other means) then things start to get a bit more serious.

At this point will have been at least eight weeks you will owe me no less than £32 in outstanding fees. If there’s been no contact and/or no payment then I will send you a recorded delivery letter giving you a deadline in which to return the carrier and pay the overdue fees. You will also be blacklisted meaning I will no longer be willing to hire a carrier to you. You are more than welcome to try a carrier at a session but you cannot take it home with you.

If there is no response within my deadline then I will be forced to take steps to recover the carrier and fees owed.

I find it very sad that I have to have a policy of how to deal with non-returned carriers. The library has helped so many people for whom it has been a lifeline, we’ve provided sanctuary, company and hands free bonding. In order to keep the service open for everyone who really needs to access it I have to enforce the rules on paying for and returning carriers. I adore seeing the look of relief on a mum’s face when she realises that life is about to get easier, this is why I do my job, please let me continue doing that by paying your fees as soon as you can.

April dates, long term hire and some other changes

April’s dates for library sessions will follow, but first a bit of housekeeping.

A little change to the pricing structure from April 1st, the weekly price will stay the same at £4 per week which I think still offers really good value based on what you get for that (loan of a carrier and unlimited swap during the life of the hire, assistance with how to use it and access to all the resources the library has!).

We’ve always offered long term hire on stretchy wraps and will continue to do so, but the price has to go up a little in order to mean the library can meet the demand for good quality stretchies available to everyone, so this will now be £25 for three months, still a very large saving!

People have made it known they would like to hire the rest of the library long term, so I will now offer a 3 month hire of anything else in the library for £40, it’s not as big a saving as with the stretchy wraps but still a reduction. It is necessary for the price to be higher on these as the cost to the library to purchase them is much higher.

This means you now have the following options from April 1st, weekly hire £4 per week, long term (3 month) hire £25 for stretchy wraps £40 for anything else.

As we come into Spring the library is getting very busy, this means that we need you to be very patient at library sessions as we work through the list of people as fast as we can. We also need you to be aware that time with peer supporter or me (the consultant/librarian) is very strictly limited so that we can see everyone. You may be seen in a group, and we may not be able to deal with very complicated needs in a library setting. Consequently I make as many consultation slots available as I can, you can book them via There is no queuing, you get personal attention from me (a trained, insured, and very experienced consultant), access and time to try everything that is currently available in the library plus if you do require more than a quick chat you have the time to do that.
